Gentiana striata Maximi is from Gentiana family,an annual herb, grows on alpine/montane meadows and bushes in 2200 to 3700m high altitude. There is no previous work reported on the chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of Gentiana striata Maxim. In this thesis we report the systematic studies on chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of Gentiana striata Maxim.17 compounds were isolated from the whole herb of Gentiana striata Maxim by means of crystallization, recrystalization, silica gel column chromatography, polyamide column chromatography and Sephadex LH-20 etc.14 structures of them were elucidated through MS,1H-NMR,13C-NMR, they are(1) loganin,(2)desoxy loganin,(3)l-O-Loganoyl-β-D-glucopyranose,(4)sweroside,(5)apigenin,(6)luteolin,(7) 5,7,4'-trihydroxy-3'-methoxy flavone,(8)quercetin,(9)rutin,(10)ursolic acid,(11)β-sitosterol,(12) daucosterol,(13)(+)-8-hydroxypinoresinol, (14) 3S,5R,6R,9S- tetrahydroxymegastigmane. All the compounds were isolated for the first time from Gentiana striata Maxim. We continued our investigation on anti inflammatory activity of ethyl acetate extract of Gentiana striata Maxim. We found that the ethyl acetate extract of Gentiana striata Maxim has inhibitory effect on mice's ear swollen, and the smaller dosage is the more dramatic the difference show s.It also has inhibitory effect on rheumatoid arthritis rats' feet swollen. And the results suggest that the potential anti-inflammatory action of Gentiana striata Maxim might be partly based on the suppressed production of the prostaglandin E2(PGE2) and NO levels. The result of this paper will provide theoretical evidences for exploiting and utilizing plant resources.
