ObjectiveThis randomized controlled clinical research takes body needle as comparison and observes the clinical curative effect of applying electric needle plus naval therapy to cure simple obesity. It discusses the clinical effect and functional mechanism of this therapy and provides the basis for the clinical treatment of simple obesity.MethodsThe research subjects are 70 patients of simple obesity who were treated in clinics in Taiwan from October 2008 to October 2009 and who met the case selection standards. Divide the patients into Electric Needle Plus Naval Therapy Group and Body Needle Group with 35 in each group at the rate of 1:1. Treat every other day and 15 times make a period of treatment, and there are 2 periods in total. After every period of treatment, measure patients' height, weight, BWH (bust, waist and hips),BMI and body fat percentage (F%) and other indexes as well as clinical curative effect. Before and after the treatment, check the safety indexes.Use software EPIDATA 3.01 to set up the database and use software SPSS 10.0 for statistics and analysis. For the interclass comparison of numeration material, take t test or Wilcoxon rank sum test. For self circa comparison, take the t pair test or Wilcoxon pair rank sum test. For the interclass comparison of the classified material, takeχ2 test. For the interclass comparison of the ranked material, use Wilcoxon rank sum test. Draw the statistics graphs with software Graph Pad Prism 4.03.ResultThis randomized controlled clinical trial has 70 patients with 35 in the Electric Needle Plus Naval Therapy Group and 35 in the Body Needle Group. They are all clinic patients. The test of gender, age, disease course, obese degree, Chinese Medicine differentiated types, BWI, body fat percentage, BWH, obese level, appetite level and Chinese Medicine syndrome scores of two groups before treatment shows no statistical significance which indicates there's comparability between two groups'baseline material.1. The clinical curative effect:The difference in the clinical curative effect of the two groups has statistical significance. For the Treatment Group, the recovery rate is 51.4%, the excellence rate is 28.5%, the effective power is 11.4%and the total effective power is 91.4%, while those of the Controlled Group are 34.2%,14.2%,37.1%and 85.8 respectively. Comparing curative effect of the two groups with rank sum test (z=2.08, P=0.03), the author finds the difference has statistical significance. Comparing the total effective power after treatment withχ2 test, the author finds the difference has no statistical significance (P>0.05)2. Chinese Medicine syndrome score:After two treatment periods, the Chinese Medicine syndrome scores of the Treatment Group and the Controlled Group decreases from 34.29±10.64 to 21.23±9.17 and from 31.52±10.88 to 25.75±8.78. The scores all decrease (P<0.05)and the decrease of the Treatment Group is more noticeable which indicates that naval therapy can effectively improve the clinical symptoms of two types of simple obesity, namely the Spleen Deficiency and Dampness Stagnation and Spleen and Kidney Yang Deficiency types.3. BWI:After two treatment courses, the weight indexes of the patients in the Treatment Group and the Controlled Group are lowered from 31.12±3.26 to 24.17±2.16 and from 30.17±3.28 to 26.26±2.21. Both groups'BWI decrease (P<0.01) and the decrease of the Treatment Group is more noticeable. It indicates electric needle plus naval therapy can lower the body weight of patients of deficient syndrome obesity noticeably.4. Body fat percentage (F%):After two treatment courses, body fat percentage of the patients in the Treatment Group and the Controlled Group are lowered from 52.18±4.24 to 38.53±3.32 and from 51.24±4.53 to 43.76±3.15. Both groups' F% have decreased (P<0.01) and the F% decrease of the Treatment Group is more noticeable. It indicates electric needle plus naval therapy can lower the body fat percentage of patients of deficient syndrome obesity noticeably.5. Obese degree:After two treatment courses, obese degree of the patients in the Treatment Group and the Controlled Group are lowered from 37.84±10.06 to 16.53±7.73 and from 37.06±10.28 to 23.17±8.10. Both groups'obese degrees have decreased (P<0.01) and the decrease of the Treatment Group is more noticeable. It indicates electric needle plus naval therapy can lower the obese degree of patients of deficient syndrome obesity noticeably.6. BWH:After two treatment courses, the bust, waist and hip measurements of the patients in the Treatment Group and the Controlled Group are lowered. The waist and hip measurements of two groups decrease more noticeably than the bust measurement and the Controlled Group has better effect.7. Appetite degree:Compare the appetite degree improvement of the Treatment Group and the Controlled Group, and the author finds that the difference has statistical significance (P<0.01). The appetite degree improvement of the Treatment Group is more noticeable. The check of safety shows that no abnormality is found in the patients whose blood, urine and stool routine test, liver and kidney function test and ECG test results were normal before treatment. It indicates the clinical safety of this therapy and has the clinical promotion and research value.ConclusionElectric needle plus naval therapy has significant effect in treating deficient syndrome obesity, can lower patients'obesity indexes (BWI, F%, BWH and obese degree), effectively release the clinical symptoms, improve appetite degree, warm kidney and spleen, support the healthy qi, smooth the collaterals, get rid of dampness and turbidity, so as to achieve the treatment goal. It's worth of being popularized.
