Objective:To observe the expression of HMGB1 (High mobility group protein boxl) and survivin in tissues of ovarian endometriosis and its clinical significances. Methods:The levels of HMGB1 and survivin in ectopic endimetrium and eutopic endimetrium of 38 patients with ovarian endometriosis, and 37 cases of normal endometrium were detected by immunohistochemical method. Results:The average optical density of HMGB1 in ectopic endimetrium, eutopic endimetrium and normal endometrium were 0.41±0.05,0.35±0.06 and 0.22±0.04 respectively, among which significant differences were observed(p<0.05). The average optical density of survivin in ectopic endimetrium, eutopic endimetrium and normal endometrium were 0.46±0.05,0.40±0.07 and 0.25±0.05 respectively, among which significant differences were observed(p<0.05).The expression of HMGB1 and survivin were correlated with clinical stages, but not ages, the diameter of lump and menstrual period.Further analysis showed that positive correlations were observed between HMGB1 and survivin in ectopic endimetrium and eutopic endimetrium (r=0.615,r=0.591, respectively) Conclusion:1. High expressions of HMGB1 and survivin, as well as the positive correction between the two were observed in tissues of ovarian endometriosis, which suggest that HMGB1 and survivin may be involved in the pathogenesis of ovarian endometriosis.2.The expression of HMGB1 and survivin in tissues of ovarian endometriosis were related to the clinical stages, which suggest that HMGB1 and survivin may direct the severity of the disease.
