Cichorium glandulosum Boiss.et Hout. is a annual herb which comes from Cichorium intybus L. in Compositae,which seeds are cheap and have good nutritional and medicinal value. There are kinds of active ingredient which content are rich with excellent utilization value. To provide a theoretical and practical basis to the development of Xinjiang's chicory seeds.The main results in the paper following that:1.There are 92.3% moisture and volatile elements in Cichorium glandulosum Boiss.et Hout. seeds, the other is ash which content is 7.7%. Detecting six necessary elements to human by atomic absorption spectrometry, the results shows that Na(0.87%), Mg(0.29%), Pb(0.084%),Cu(0.023%),Ni(0.032%)and Cr(0). The content of Vitamin C in chicory seeds is 0.041‰.2. Using different methods on Cichorium glandulosum Boiss.et Hout. seeds to determine the content of total flavonoids. According to the orthogonal experiment results, ultrasonic extraction rate (4.3%) is higher than the heating (3.8%), the former average extraction rate (3.68%) is significantly higher than the latter (2.67% ). This results shows that ultrasonic extraction is better than heating reflux extraction by saving time.3.Extracting volatile oil in Cichorium glandulosum Boiss.et Hout.with water, which includes alkanes, alkenes, ketones, acids dominated and are identified 20 compounds by peak area normalization method. The main component are 2-pyridone (30.09%) and 1-methyl cyclopentane (19.70%).Extracting oil in Cichorium glandulosum Boiss.et Hout. by Ultrasonic, which weight is 50% of its total weight. The content of fat unsaturated fatty acids in the seeds oil is 88.2% ,to a maximum is linoleic acid of 77.8%, the content of oleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid respectivity is10.4%, 7.8%, 3.82%.4. TLC and various column chromatographic methods were applied for the isolation and purification of the chemical constituents and their structures were elucidated on the basis of 1HNMR spectroscopic techniques. Eleven compounds were isolated and identified as ergosterol (Ⅰ), [3β-(2'-methyl butanoyloxy)-8βH- eremophil-7(11)-ene-12,8α(14,6α)-diolide] (Ⅳ), pregnenolonep (Ⅴ). By the control experiment of TLC chromatography water layer may contain lupeol,β-sitosterol, glucose and maltose.5. Experimental results show:70% ethanol extract of Cichorium glandulosum Boiss.et Hout. seeds has 32.8% antitumor activity.On which thin-layer analysis,correlation remains to be further improved.
