| Objective:To observe the effects and significance of Norcantharidin on the expression of vascular endothelial growth factors(VEGF) and E26 transformation Specific-1(Ets-1)in the retinas of diabetic rats.Method:Diabetic rats by streptozotocin(60mg/kg) were randomly divided into diabetes group (20) and Norcantharidin intervention group (20).Another 10 normal rats were recruited as normal control group. The Norcantharidin intervention group was injected Norcantharidin (28mg/kg) while diabetes groups and normal control group were injected saline solution into peritoneal cavity twice every week.8 weeks later,10 rats in each group were removed the eyes and the expression of VEGF and Ets-1 in the retinas were detected by Elisa,immunohisochemistry and electron microscopy.Rsult:Elisa showed that The expression of VEGF,Ets-1 in retinas in diabetes group and Norcantharidin intervention group was significantly higher than that of normal control group (P<0.05).the Norcantharidin intervention group was lower than diabetes group(P<0.05). Immunohisochemistry showed that the VEGF,Ets-1 positive cells in retinas in diabetes group and Norcantharidin intervention group were both higher than the normal control group,and the Norcantharidin intervention group was lower than diabetes group. electron microscopy demonstrated that the pathological changes of diabetic retinopath were observed in diabetes group and Norcantharidin intervention group, the pathological degree in Norcantharidin intervention group was slighter than in diabetes group.Conclusion:Norcantharidin injected intraperitoneally decreases the expression of VEGF and Ets-1 in retinas of diabetic rats so that partly suppresses the development of diabetic retinopathy.
