With the global economic and cultural integration, and the gradual expansion of China's reform, English as a means of communication is valued by the public. At the same time English teaching is also facing the rising demands. Secondary vocational schools syllabus pointed out explicitly: English, as a universal language, is one of the most important international communicative tools. As one of the compulsory public basic courses, its primary mission is to make the students master some elementary English knowledge and the basic skills, train the students'English practical ability in the daily life and professional scene. Listening and speaking abilities are specially emphasized. The current quality of students in secondary vocational schools is declining. The quality of fresh students is getting worse and worse. Meanwhile, for a long time, in the secondary vocational schools English teaching is still teacher-centered. This traditional teaching model radically restricted the efficiency and effectiveness of English teaching and learning. The problem of"Deaf-mute English"and"consuming more and less effective"has not been changed. Most teachers are still using the traditional teaching methods, which can not arouse the interest of students and the needs of the students are ignored. The classroom atmosphere is tedious and the teaching effectiveness is poor. To solve this dilemma, many educators are exploring a lot of new teaching methods. For the English listening and speaking teaching in secondary vocational schools, the author thinks that the application of the multimedia assisted situational method is the most appropriate one. Referring to the findings by teachers and scholars, the author attempts to implement SM with adjustments in English teaching for the purpose of improving the English teaching quality. The author finds out that the multimedia assisted situational method has existed in our modern society for a long time, and continues to thrive. The aim of this action research is to find out whether SM is suitable for secondary vocational English listening and speaking teaching, whether SM can improve classroom atmosphere and what changes will happen in students' attainment in English listening and speaking class when SM is adopted. This thesis, in perspective of problem solving, advances the model of instructional design process for SM in English classroom of secondary vocational schools. Under the guidance of constructivist learning theory and Krashen's input theory, the author made a survey as well as an analysis of the current conditions of English teaching and learning in Qingdao Art School and worked out the teaching scheme for SM teaching, which aimed at inspiring students' interest in English learning and heightening awareness of learning autonomy. The research shows that by designing some real situations using multimedia courseware, learners are activated in the language learning. It is beneficial to the students to master knowledge in various situations, increase the students' interest and change the dull atmosphere of English teaching. It helps students to get a practical command of the skills of English listening and speaking. It provides the low-level secondary vocational students with a favorable language atmosphere and pays attention to training the students'communicative ability. It also makes English classes more interesting and lively. In a word, the multimedia assisted situational method can solve some problems in secondary vocational English teaching and make the teaching more efficient and effective.
