Abstract/Summary:
Academic procrastination is an ordinary phenomenon during the lives of students. It is a tendency for an individual often or nearly often to delay school tasks or to experience the anxiety concerned it. The research aims to investigate the situation of academic procrastination, and to study the relationship among perfectionism, achievement goal orientation, future goal and academic procrastination of college students. It accumulates information and provides reference date for academic procrastination and its related factors. The study provides theoretical basis and new ideas for reducing the academic procrastination of college students.The study selected 426 effective participants, who were from Shandong University, Jinan University, Shandong Institute of Commerce and Technology, Shandong University of Economics and management. The scales included Procrastination Assessment Scale-Students (PASS), Chinese version of Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, Achievement Goal Orientation scale and Future goal scale by Song Qizheng. The study had examined the population characteristics of perfectionism, achievement goal orientation, future goal and academic procrastination. The main conclusions are as follows:1. Academic procrastination exists widely in nearly half of the college students.2. The degree of academic procrastination is not the same in different grade. Specialty and grade have interaction effect significantly on academic procrastination. The gender brings about significant difference in the total score of perfectionism and one of its parental expectations. The specialty brings about significant difference in organization. Gender and specialty have interaction effect significantly on parental expectation. The birthplace brings about significant difference in doubt of action. Mastery-approach goal orientation has significant difference in birthplace and grade. Specialty and grade, specialty, birthplace and grade have interaction effect significantly on mastery-approach goal orientation. The gender brought about significant difference in the total score of future goal and far-reach goal orientation.3. The dimensions of concern about mistakes and parental expectation of perfectionism have positive correlation with academic procrastination; the dimension of organization has negative correlation with academic procrastination. Achievement goal orientation, performance-approach and mastery-approach goal orientation have negative correlation with academic procrastination. Performance-avoid goal orientation has positive correlation with academic procrastination. Future goal, future image, future efficacy, far-reach goal orientation, behavioral commitment have positive correlation with academic procrastination. Purpose consciousness has negative correlation with academic procrastination. Achievement goal orientation, performance-approach, mastery-approach, performance-avoid and mastery-avoid goal orientation have positive correlation with the total score of perfectionism. Future goal has negative correlation with the total score of perfectionism. Achievement goal orientation, performance-approach, mastery-approach, performance-avoid and mastery-avoid goal orientation have negative correlation with future goal. It shows that organization, concern about mistakes, parental expectation of perfectionism, mastery-approach goal orientation, behavioral commitment, far-reach goal orientation can predict 32.6% of the degree of academic procrastination, that is, there is certain prediction ability.4. Performance-approach and mastery-avoid goal orientation playes the part intermediary role between future goal and academic procrastination. Mastery-approach and performance-avoid goal orientation playes the complete intermediary role between future goal and academic procrastination.
