Research On Western Feminism Design At The Present Age

With the development of society, the tide of feminism has constantly spread out and has deep influence on various aspects of our life. Owing to improvement of productivity and change of production relationship, the female has started to recognized themselves, meanwhile the self-value and social status have also been affirmed. Especially in design field, more female have participated in design practice and design consumption. The female as subject and object of design have played a very important role in design.By analyzing the performance of feminism in furniture design, the thesis has reflected on the culture connotation of the contemporary western feminine furniture and self-realization and self-value of the female in design field.The thesis has firstly reviewed the development of feminism and thoughts of different feminism genres, ascertained the definition of feminism and core thought, and then analyzed the relationship between contemporary western feminism and furniture design through case parsing of feminine furniture designed by contemporary western female designers and male designers, afterwards researched the semiotic meanings of the contemporary western feminine furniture, interpreted the presentation and similarities of the contemporary western feminine design consciousness, concluded the value-orientation and culture connotation in feminine furniture design, finally revealed the enlightenment to design of contemporary western feminine furniture design aiming at offering theoretical reference to contemporary designers..
