Relationship Between College Students' Resilience And Locus Of Control

The psychological resilience is the adaptation process and the mental mechanism that can develop smoothly when individuals meet with adversity or setbacks. Its essence is the result of a series of protective factors interacting with the circumstance. Whether individuals adapt themselves to the new circumstance after adversity or setbacks depends on their psychological Resilience. Meanwhile, whether individuals adapt themselves to the new circumstance smoothly after adversity or setbacks have much to do with their locus of control. This research has established the college students' psychological resilience questionnaire through open-end questionnaire and consulting relative literature. It's based on the internal and external protective factors of college student's mind. This research selected 761 university students as the subjects, analyzed the basic condition of their psychological Resilience and Locus of Control. This research also checked the relationship between psychological Resilience and Locus of Control. This research comes to the following conclusion through statistics and analysis:(1) The results of exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis shows:the psychological resilience of college students consists of five factors, mood stability, life style, interpersonal relationship, the support from family members and the support from friends. These factors explain 57.556% of total amount of psychological resilience variation. The empirical model of this questionnaire suits the theory construct pretty well. The credibility and the validity of the questionnaire are comparatively high. It can be an effective tool to measure college students' psychological resilience.(2) The findings of the research of college student's psychological resilience shows:Grade 3 non-medical students got remarkably higher score than medical students in the support from friends dimension. Grade 4 medical students got remarkably higher score than non-medical students in the support from friends dimension.After controlling major factor, both medical college students and non-medical college students have the grade difference in the support from friends dimension. Speaking of the medical college students, Grade 4 students got a remarkably higher score than Grade 2 and Grade 3 students. Grade 5 students got a remarkably higher score than Grade 3 students. Speaking of the non-medical students, the first grade and the second grade, the first-grade and the fourth-grade students have a remarkable difference in this dimension.(3) The score of all the factors of locus of control were lower than norm. The score of Internal Health Locus of Control is remarkable lower than norm. Compared with various dimensions' score, the score of Internal Health Locus of Control dimension is higher than Chance Health Locus of Control (CHLC) and Powerful Others Health Locus of Control (PHLC) dimension in this research.(4) The score of every dimensions of college students'resilience and the total score were positively correlated with Internal Health Locus of Control dimension and negatively correlated with Chance Health locus of Control and Powerful Others Health Locus of Control.
