Modest language, as a main characteristic of Chinese, appears to meet the needs of interpersonal communication in a civilized society. It is an embodied form of politeness principles. It not only wraps a coat of mysterious modest culture for the long history of the Chinese language, but also plays a very important role in people's daily communication. Especially in the eastern culture, the expressive philosophy of "be modest and respect others" is always one important factor for people to succeed in daily communication. Therefore, timely use of correct modest language can improve communication, and then helps obtain appropriate effect of communication. This function of modest language plays a significant role in teaching Chinese as a foreign language beyond the Chinese culture circle. It not only bears the mission of language teaching and culture teaching, but also helps overseas students of beyond the Chinese culture circle achieve better communication a lot.The purpose of this research is to strengthen the Chinese modest language teaching and thus to improve Chinese communication skills beyond the Chinese culture circle. By the way, it puts forward some positive suggestions for compiling Chinese language teaching materials and teaching modest language in classrooms. The subject is divided into four chapters:The first chapter is the documentation analysis, which hackles and sums up previous relevant researches, thus highlights the start point of the research. It also thoroughly illustrates the research significance, the research object, the current situation and innovations, and research ideas and methods, thus lays the groundwork for the following specific argument.The second chapter mainly expounds the basic theory of modest language. It introduces the definition, structure, features, pragmatic analysis, restricting factors, expression versatility, etc. of modest language, which lays the imprint for compacted knowledge of modest language. Meanwhile, it lays the basis for a further analysis.The third chapter is the analysis of the survey of teaching situation beyond the Chinese culture circle. Interviews and questionnaires are used to understand the distribution and hierarchization of modest language, the overseas students' modest language acquisition beyond the Chinese culture circle, and TCFL teachers' implementation of the modest language teaching. Based on this, it provides reasonable suggestions and credible proofs for effective teaching strategies.The fourth chapter is the analysis of modesty Chinese language teaching strategy beyond the Chinese culture circle. This part is the key of the subject research, which mainly puts forward detailed and effective strategies for modest language teaching situation and provides powerful reference for modest language teaching beyond the Chinese culture circle.Modest language plays an important and positive role in teaching Chinese as a foreign language beyond the Chinese culture circle. However, modest language research does not gain much attention due to a lack of studies on modest language. Further perfecting the modest language teaching situation, especially teaching Chinese as a foreign language beyond the Chinese culture circle, is a problem to be solved in the academia.
