Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald(1896-1940)is an important author of America in the 20th century. He endued twenties of the 20th century with a vivid name as"Jazz Age"and came to be known as lureate of the Jazz Age. Most of Fitzgerald's novels are based on his unihibited life, which already becomes a legend, as a original script. His novels described the social circumstances and the lost young generation in that Social Transformation. Those young men who want embrace the Ameican Dream, struggled for succeed but finally failed. The culture was constituted by the youth's mind and behavior, affected by the American Dream. The culture became a variation of American Dream. Without a doult, Youth Culture is the soul of Fitzgerald's novels.This dissertation choose"Youth Culture"based on This Side of Paradise, The Beatiful and Damed, The Great Gatsby to discuss. It try to show the impact of the culture is significant on the society. The dissertation try to display every aspect of social life and unique culture mentality through explaining the concept of"Youth Culture"and doing text reading and analysis.The whole dissertation is costitued by five chapters. Chapter One is the summary of Fitzgerald's previous studies and why I selected this topic. Chapter Two is divided into two parts.The first part is the interpret the conception of Youth Culture. In this dissertation, we do not use the phrase of meaning in sociology and anthropology but to refer to social mentality, values and lifestyle of the youth. The second part of Chapter Two proposes the the agrument that Youth Culture is the variation of American Dream and introduces Youth Culture of Jazz Age. Chater Three is the key part of this dissertation. In this part, it demonstrates Youth Culture with text reading and text analysis in his three novels. Chapter Four is the deep exploration part.It discuss Youth Culture mentality. There are two parts in this chapter. One is the ascendent youth consume consciousness identitied Youth Culture. The other is the change of the aesthetic appeal. Youth obessession and aging fearing appeared. The last chapter is the conclusion. It is the summary and promotion about this dissertation.There are some innovations about this dissertation. It is rare in the study of Fitzgerald that focus on Youth Culture in home. The novels'essence is the Youthful atmosphere and style of the times. I hope I will get the further understanding of Fitzgerald's work by writing this dissertation.
