| As a celebrated poet, translator, critic and a senior publisher, Tu An devoted his whole life to poetry creation and translation, in which he gained remarkable achievements. Long immersed in Western and Eastern cultures, Tu An started his poetry creation and translation at his early age and has produced a lot of excellent works. He has successfully transplanted western sonnets by changing while borrowing and creating in his own writing. What's more, his translation of Shakespeare's sonnets and Keats'poems are widely acknowledged. As a remarkable poet and translator, Tu An has attracted a lot of scholars'attention and been widely acclaimed. However, studies on his poetry translation and his literary creation are not systematic and comprehensive. For example, those scholars mainly focus on Tu An's literary creation or translation separately. Few of them make the attempts to connect the two aspects together and probe into their interactions.Applying Gideon Toury's theory and approach of descriptive translation studies, this paper explores Tu'an's translation activities by regarding them as cultural facts, so as to find out the influencing factors in the process and analyze his translations'functions and position in the target language poly-system.Tu An's choice of source texts is influenced by his recognition of the political and social environment, temperamental affinity with the poets and the same aesthetic pursuit as the authors. Meanwhile, his poetry creation and aesthetic pursuit exert a specific yet profound influence upon his translation strategies, and more specifically, upon the rhythm, rhyme, and language. The features of his translation and interaction between his poetry and translation can be well illustrated with the examples of his own writing, Shakespeare's sonnets and Keats'poems. His dual identity as a poet and translator and individuality contribute to his distinctive translation style, leaving a mark in China's translation history.
