The Research On Furniture Design Ideology Of YRJO KUKKAPURO

One of the most important furniture designers, YRJO KUKKAPURO, comes to be the important successor of Scandinavia function principle. At present, the domestic furniture design of China does not form systematization theory on YRJO KUKKAPURO's design ideology. It is the first time that this article made a system research on YRJO KUKKAPURO's design ideology, proposed useful suggestions on furniture design of China, and enriched valuable foundations for the following deeper research. Meanwhile, this article provided the references for the design education of China by analyzing the way that YRJO KUKKAPURO a normal furniture designer turns to the master of furniture design, and sharing his education experience of design.This article utilized the literature methodology, the historical analytic method, the system analytic method and so on, and consulted a large number of related materials, such as design ideological trends and design ideas. First of all, the author analyzed three main design concepts which influenced the entire Europe during the last century:the Bauhaus functionalism, the Scandinavia design, and the organic modernism. Then, according to the growth way of YRJO KUKKAPURO to trace the forming process of his design ideologies from three aspects:nourishes of nature, influences of cultural and art, as well as the learning experience at Helsinki Design Art University. Meanwhile, the author concluded YRJO KUKKAPURO's design ideologies by means of analyzing his representatives, and further acquainted the influences of his design ideologies through other's design cases. The main design ideologies of YRJO KUKKAPURO includes:materials of design:does not stick to the traditional materials, use new materials boldly, and inquire the application of new technical; methods of design:pay attention to details of connection spots, emphasis structure and function, use the human body engineering, and try his best to balance the function and the beauty; ideas of design:combine national characters and external cultural organically, deal with the design elements of tradition and modern, localization and internationalization reasonable. No matter in function or in esthetics, the furniture work of YRJO KUKKAPURO manifests his opening consciousness and innovative spirit fully."The learning from others may attack the jade". By learning from design ideologies of YRJO KUKKAPURO, and comparing with China design reality, we should work hard at the practice of design aspect:take the science design methods as foundation, advocate nature, insist on national design elements and at the same time follow the step of time, compromise tradition and modern organically, and balance the function and the esthetic relations perfectly; at the development direction of design:take the harmony and long-term development as goals, protect natural resources, pay great attention to the style of reduced design and innovative design, inherit traditional skills and national culture spirit, let design of China move towards to the world; and education of design:perfect the study of basic design theory, pay great attention to operation ability, unify "produce, study, and research", promote the young designers create and grow quickly by way of many kinds of competitions and displays, let the outstanding design of China move towards to the world.
