English listening teaching based on traditional teaching model is not satisfactory up to now. Vocational colleges mainly adopt the teaching pattern guided by teaching goals in which teaching goals or knowledge dominate and control the selecting of teaching materials, organization, implementation, and assessment of curriculum. Teachers are goal-makers and dominators of teaching activities, while students act as the passive receivers of teaching activities. Consequently, listening teaching in vocational colleges must update the teaching beliefs and construct student-centered teaching patterns.Constructivism holds that learning is not to passively receive knowledge from teachers but it is a process of construction in which students actively construct their knowledge based on their own knowledge and experience. Constructivism advocates student-centered learning under teachers'guidance. It attaches great importance to students'self-exploration, self-discovery, and self-construction of knowledge. Constructivism has been widely used in the teaching, but the application of constructivism to listening teaching with multimedia is still fewer nowadays. Therefore, the thesis interprets the significance and feasibility of the study. The thesis begins with a general review and then implements the study. The study is carried out with four procedures: 1) Pre-test. The pre-test is conducted among the freshmen from the School of Chartered Public Accountant, Shandong Trade Union College and two proximal-level classes are selected as the subjects, one as the experiment group and the other as the control group. 2) Application.Constructivism-based multimedia listening teaching is applied to the experiment group, while the traditional listening teaching model is applied to the control group. 3) Post-test. The post-test is carried out in the two groups. 4) Data collection and analysis. The data is collected and analyzed to check up the effectiveness of the study. The result is obtained----constructivism-based multimedia listening teaching is more effective in promoting students'English listening performance, arousing their learning interest and fostering learning attitude for non-English majors in vocational colleges. In the end, the study is summarized by describing major findings, limitations and recommendations for further research.
