World Heritage is a national treasure, its meaning and spirit worth to explore and admire. Every country and nation is proud to have world heritage. China, since 1985 officially became one member of the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage Convention, so far a total of 40 World Heritage projects have been included in the World Heritage.Now China has become the world's third largest heritage country, Second only to Italy and Spain. In our country the number of world heritage is very rich, full range and long history, natural heritage with high ornamental value, historical and cultural sites with high historical and cultural value. Unique natural landscape and superb artistic achievement makes the world amazing.In recent years, with the heritage tourism gradually rising, world heritage sites become the first choice of destinations for travel. With the economic efficiency increasing, visibility of the word heritage enhancing and history and culture more widely inherited, a series of contradictions and problems are gradually emerging, such as conflicts among tourism economy, the environment and the society, conflicts between resource development and protection of World Heritage, site management system and other issues. The substance of these issues is development issues. The development of heritage tourism is not temporal, but to pursue sustainable development. In view of these problems and conflicts, the sustainable development research of heritage tourism has important theoretical and practical significance. The scientific evaluation on the sustainability of World Heritage will be benefit to the strategic adjustment of heritage tourism and scientific development. Address the plight of heritage tourism development and achieve the goal of sustainable development of tourism.The article outlines World Heritage and the development of heritage tourism. With domestic and international heritage tourism research, make comprehensive review of heritage tourism. According to sustainable development theory, analyze the contradictions and problems emerged in heritage tourism on the base of the status of heritage tourism in our country. Based on evaluation theory of sustainable development of heritage tourism, in accordance with scientific principles of construction of the evaluation index system, build the evaluation index system of heritage tourism for sustainable development on the basis of experts' advices. Use the method of AHP to give each index the appropriate weight. And then, build an evaluation model on sustainable development of heritage tourism. Finally, use the model to evaluate the sustainable development of the Ming Tombs area, give comprehensive evaluation of the extent and analyze the contradictions and problems, promote targeted strategies and recommendations on the sustainable development of heritage tourism of the Ming Tombs area.
