Zuo Spring And Autumn Of "Justice" Concept Of The Use And Classification

Righteousness is one of the most important concepts in Chinese tradition. In order to make the concept of"righteousness"clearly, studying the use and the classifications of it in the"Annals of Zuo"is of great significance .In the Home Biography Books, "righteousness" are always being admonished by the meaning of etiquette and appropriate. The ethical sense of righteousness is more admonished of appropriate. And through the interpretation of appropriate, there are more ways of explaining the righteousness, such as explaining it in interest, laws, morals and good, and driving out of inappropriate and so on. The conclusion can come from the contents in the"Annals of Zuo"which includes the whole traditional meanings of righteousness. In addition, through studying from the Oracle, the modern people have viewed the meaning of righteousness as the ancient meaning of"Yi Jing", so the righteousness has the culture of Yin Yi main cold rage."Righteousness"is found in"Annals of Zuo"for 112 times, which are distributed in 78 passages in the whole book. These passages are mostly associated with characters, events and virtue, being the whole soul and spirit of the events. Zhang Chong, who was the people of Song dynasty, inducted"Annals of Zuo"for the 339 things, in which"righteousness"were found in 59 things. Through investigating the 59 things, we may summarize the actual uses of"righteousness"in the"Annals of Zuo".In the 78 passages of"Annals of Zuo", the functions of righteousness can be divided into the define of the concept , the discussion of it, the admonishing of it, the evaluation of it, the praise of it, the criticizing of it, the argument of it and so on. By the categories of the functions of righteousness, we are able to make the scopes of the righteousness which influences more clearly. In the 78 passages of righteousness in"Annals of Zuo", the 17 passages about the argument of it are the most far-reaching parts. In the 17 passages, the contents of righteousness are included in the differentiating between righteousness and faith, the righteousness and brave, the righteousness and justice, the righteousness and interests, the righteousness and thrifty, the righteousness and power and so on, which all are dilemma in the actual using of righteousness. From what have discussed above, the author thinks that the meaning of righteousness is appropriate is the essential meaning of it, and the remaining meanings are all come from it. The righteousness in actual using in behavior and in abstract is always being viewed as morality. However, the basis of morality is still appropriate and obeys to appropriate. The morality is the appraisive concept of righteousness.In this paper, the author returns to the"Annals of Zuo"to read righteousness in one by one case, in hope that we can give a clearer understand in the ethical of righteousness.
