On The Investigation Of The Affixes And Particular Word-building Of Time Nouns In Shanghai Dialect

In Shanghai dialect, there're a lot of time nouns which are composed of special affixes and built by particular word-building. This paper will sort and describe these affixes and word-building on the basis of collecting and ordering. Moreover, on behalf of the affixes of time nouns in Shanghai dialect,"歇"and"脚"will be investigated in their expressions and processes of forming.Firstly, we sort these Shanghai dialect's time nouns by their affixes. There're altogether 12 special affixes of time nouns, which are divided into groups by the relevance. Then, these affixes will be displayed and described by specific sentences which are included the affixes as samples. The origin and extended meanings of the words that act as affixes will also be investigated, through which we could briefly analyze the reasons why they can work as these particular affixes.Secondly, the special word-building of the time nouns in Shanghai dialect which are different from the word-building in Chinese is also be the investigation target. The word-building are sort into four groups, being displayed by specific words and sentences. After that, we will analyze the creation mechanism and motivation and compare that with relevant words in Chinese.Finally,"歇"and"脚"are analyzed separately in this paper. Through the theory of Grammaticalization and lexicalization, we will discuss the origin of"歇"and"脚", the affixes of the time nouns in Shanghai dialect and revealed the reason for their existence. Besides, we make a comparatively detailed investigation into this sentence pattern to compare"一歇"and"一会","脚"and"尾"so that the particular affixes could be displayed in full.
