Chinese idioms are a kind of special structure in modern Chinese, the form style is very concise, has a lifelike meaning. And because it shows a strong conservative of popularity, you can easily see people using it in our daily lives.However, most of the parts of idioms are metaphorical expressions. The literal meaning of the words are different from the real meaning inside. Due to that, foreigners have lot of difficulties learning Chinese idioms. We pursued a study to make it easier for them, by clearing up the difficulties as follows.In the introduction Chapter 1,we described the main points collected from previous studies about Chinese idioms, introduced the reason why we choose this subject for our thesis and the range of our research.In Chapter 2, we searched the grammer and the function of Chinese idiom through related examples.The 3rd Chapter as the key part of this thesis, we gave a cognitive approach and classified Chinese idiom based on the metaphor theory which was introduced in a book , written by a linguist Lakoff and a philosopher Johnson from America.The 4th Chapter,we looked in to find the cultural factors implicited in the Chinese idioms.Conclusion Chapter 5,we proposed a new perspective for the field for learning Chinese idioms by putting the ideas from body of the thesis all together.
