Wang Xiaobo, who was a writer in 20th century of China, had been deeply influenced by Calvino. According to distinguishing means of artistic expression, they share four similarities on their aesthetic values: fairy styles, game spirit, poetic images, and sapiential minds. Although they both advocate resisting the cruel realities with the witty means that endowed form art, Calvino conducts his practice with aesthetics of wittiness but Wang Xiaobo with his black humors. Also, they both seek for infiniteness of narration, which is reflected in their"meta-narrative", but Calvino takes more endeavors on promoting the interaction between the author and the readers, which is distinguished from Wang Xiaobo's emphasis put on the experience of writing texts. What is more, the two are both likely to conduct implied narrations with concise words, when Calvino's styles show us"crystal structure"but Wang Xiaobo's structure of mutiple lines. The first two chapters of the dissertation include the aesthetic similarities and distinguishing marks of Calvino's and Wang Xiaobo's works, and from the third chapter on, with perspective not only confined to the tests themselves, the author attempt to analyze the causes of their formations and finally draw out conclusions: similar familial educations and compounded reading resources are responsible for their interconnectedness, and with aesthetic explanations the rules of individual western fictions and eastern ones are involved. The inner reasons for their differences of the means of artist expression are their individual aesthetic goals, and relevantly, historical surroundings influence their expressions. In the final conclusion, the author holds: it is the works of fiction themselves contribute to their interconnectedness and distinguishing marks, that is: the fiction created as"art"or"discourse".
