The Chinese animation industry was once flourishing back in the 1950s and 1960s. Back then, the Chinese brush painting style animation created a popular yet unique genre, as oppose to the American and Japanese style animation at the time. Even now, this is still one of the most fond and proud memory for animators from the period of time. In the year of 1966, the cultural revolution took place in China, the red wave swept all across the nation. During this tragic period of time, the riot did not only cause the persecution of many old time proletariate revolutional artists and intellectuals, but also took a huge impact on the existing animaiton industry. Then comes the 1980s, as the implementation of the policy of reform and opening-up, the Chinese animation industry has seen some gradually growth. Animation products have not only becoming an important media for mass population, but also a significant role in spreading and sharing Chinese culture with the rest of the world. As an environment friendly industry, animation production has becoming more and more recognized by the Chinese government, and therefore the Chinese animation industry is growing more healthy and integrated faster than ever before. However, due to the contradiciton of people often misinterpret animation and the booming economy in China, a giant gap of production level between China and countries with advanced animation production industries has been created. We have a number of urgent difficulties and obstacles that need to be overcome. How to promote Chinese animation? How to create animations with unique cultural characteristics? How to expand the animation industry in China? How to defend our domestic animation industry from foreign countries? These are the primary subjects for Chinese animation artists. This article will start with a brief introduction of animation development history, then move on to the production of animation under the influence of popular Entertainment culture, the theories and methods of animation production under the influence of popular Entertainment culture, lastly, the developing trends of future animation industry. Hopefully, through the interpretation and analysis of animation production under the influence of popular Entertainment culture will inspire animation artists to look deeper into the theme of the story, as well as the integration and the re-inventing of the theme. May Chinese animation industry will soon prosper and prevail in the world.
