A Study On The Characteristics Of Career Development,the Relationship Between Career Development And Academic Achievement For High School Students Of Han And Hui Nationalities

The systematic cross腸ultural study investigates not only thecharacteristics of high school students' career development, especiallythe gender, nationality and region difference of their career beliefs,career self膃fficacy as well as their career planning, but also therelationship between their career development and academic achievementand the gender,nationality and region difference between the twovariables of Han and Hui nationalities. 546 subjects and 12 researchparticipants take part in the study. The instruments used in this studyinclude High School Students' Career Beliefs Scale, High School Students'Career Self膃fficacy Scale and Interview Synopsis of High SchoolStudents' Career Development which are all developed by the researcher.Both qualitative and quantitative methods are integated into thisstudy.The primary findings are as follows:1.Characteristics of high school students' career development(1)A1l in all, entrance to college is highly valued by high schoolstudents and more than 80 percent of them regard it as theirfirst choice .Their career self膃fficacy is very high too.(2)In brief, it is not found the significant gender difference inhigh school students' career beliefs, career self膃fficacy andtheir career planning.As well as high school students areconcerned,there is cross腸ultural generality in the genderdifference model of their career planning, but it does not existin the gender difference models of both their career beliefs andcareer self膃fficacy.(3)There is significant nationality difference in high schoolstudents' career self膃fficacy and their career planning, but itis not found in their career beliefs.(4)As well as high school students of Han nationality are concerned,the region difference in their career beliefs is significant, butit is not in their career self膃fficacy and career planning.2.The relationship between high school students' career developmentand their academic achievement(1) High school students' career beliefs, career self膃fficacyinfluence their academic achievement and the relationshipchanges with their gender, nationalities and their regionswhere they come from. High school students' career planning does11not influence their academic achievement and the relationshipbetween their career development and academic achievement alsodoes not change with their gender, nationalities and regions.(2)High school students' academic achievement does not influencetheir career beliefs and there is not nationality and regiondifference in the relationship between the two variables , butthe gender difference is found.High school students' academic achievement influences theircareer self膃fficacy. And there is gender difference in therelationship between their academic achievement and career self膃fficacy, but both nationality and region difference is notfound.High school students' academic achievement has effect ontheir career planning and there is gender and nationalitydifference in the relationship between the above two variables,but the region difference between them is not found.3.The relationship between career development and economy or cultureCareer development is influenced by economy or culture and thereis not cross腸ultural generality between career development andeconomy or culture. As well as one certain aspect of career developmentis concerned, its characteristics of some nationalities is determinedby their economy, but its characteristics of the other nationalitiesis simultaneously determined by their national cultures and economy,which conflicts with Geert Hofstede's theory about the relationshipbetween national culture or economy and mental or behavior to a certainlevel.4.Career development theoryIn this study, gender, nationality and region difference is foundin career development, so when using the previous...
