Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty in Zhang Zhou boasted flourshing culture and prosperous literature, especially a large quantity of poems. The language of Zhang Zhou is one of the most important languages in Fu jian province, which has a great value to the investigation of Middle Chinese phonetics. In Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty when the poets of Zhang Zhou wrote the poems, they received great influence of their own language. The poetic in this area essentially reflected the actual phonetics at that time, and at the same time contained rich information about dialect phonetics. The study of the rhyme in Zhang Zhou in Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty may contribute to the description and construction of the phonetic history of this time as well as the investigation of the history of Chinese dialect phonetics. This dissertation attempts to make a thorough study of 6668 rhymes (2066 poems) written by about 30 poets in Zhang Zhou in Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, then we draw the following conclusions: 1. The system 19 rhyme categories were used by the poets in Zhang Zhou in Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, the words of Jiang rhyme category was separated from Yang ang category. 2. Analyzing the rhyming of tones with each other in poems in Zhang Zhou in Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. 3. Some of the rhyming characteristics in the poems are peculiar in Zhang Zhou, such as Zhiei () category and Yuo () category, Gee ( ) categoiy and Xiaoao () category. The dissertation consists of eight chapters, the number of words amounting to 40,000. Chapter one deals with the significance and current situation of this research in this theme, analyses the works of the poets in Zhang Zhou in Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, look backs on the history of Zhang Zhou and the development of Zhang Zhou dialect, introduces the operating procedures and analysis principles adopted in this research. Chapter two analyses and generalizes the rhyming systems of 19 categories in Zhang Zhou in Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, and discusses special rhyming characters. Chapter three is an analysis of the rhyming of different tones with each other in poems in Zhang Zhou in Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. Chapter four focuses on the rhyming characteristics in poems in Zhang Zhou in Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, such as Zhiei (i) category and Yuo () category, Gee () category and Xiaoao () categoly. Chapter five is a summary of the rhyming system and the main rhyming characteristics in Zhang Zhou in Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty.
