The present thesis can be divided into four sections. The author in part I researches the connotation of the landscape poetry, and gives a definition of landscape poetry. The author thinks that landscape poetry should be mainly some description of mountains and rivers. Its target in perception of appreciation of beauty is only the scene of mountains and rivers. The causes of the booming of the Chinese landscape poetry are analyzed in perception of appreciation of the beauty in Chapter II.The author analyzes the landscape poetry in detail from two perspectives. On one hand, the repetition of description on the scenes of mountains and rivers in history paves the way for the booming of landscape poetry. However, the accumulation in the amount of the description can be simply regarded as richness in lexial terms but as an improvement in expressiveness and richness in the connotation of the language on mountains and rivers .On the other hand , the aesthetic scenes in mountains and rivers possessed by a group of men in letters are the direct reason for the coming of the landscape poetry .The evolution in the ideas about mountains and rivers from Earlier Qin to Jin and Song is studied first in this section. Then the occurrence of group aesthetic scenes on mountains and rivers in Dong Jin and discussed from three factors: tasting persons with discrimetion, natural view on metaphysics and Buddhism, being keen on mountains and rivers in the south of YangZee River. The author of this thesis makes a statistic on the numbers of the landscape poetry before Tang Dynasty, then he outlines the literary creation of Pre-Tang landscape poetry in terms of time order, finally he explains the rules of Pre-Tang landscape poetry from three perceptions.First, the changes in the relationships between landscape poets and mountains and rivers indicates a certain rule in different stages of the middle ancient literature: from the philosophical integretion of subject and object to aesthetic seperation of subject and object, and finally to poetic integretion of subject and object.Secondly, there is a obvious change in the development of landscape poetry during Jin Dynasty and South Dynasty. With personal emotion overgrowing the metaphysics, the landscape poetry goes out of metaphysics' teaching and focuses on describing the beauty of mountains and rivers and expressing the personal emotions.Thirdly, from natural tone to artificial tone .The influences of the schools of Yong Ming literature on landscape poetry. The author concludes the characteristic of the landscape poetry before Tang Dynasty, and makes a historical assessment on it.
