Liang Zongdai is one important role in the field of poems in the first fifty years of the 20th century. He has unique contributions to the creation and translation of poems, to the construct of theories of poems, and to the exploration of aesthetics of poems. Because of some reasons, people are not familiar with his name, and Liang's theories of poems and aesthetics are not been given enough attention. This paper would try to explore tentatively the theories of his poems and aesthetics with the background of blending the cultures of China and western countries, and to prove people's understanding of his theories and his behaviors through this exploration. The four parts in this paper discuss respectively the Liang's acceptance of western symbolism; comparative study of the theories of western poems and Chinese poems; proposing the theories of poems creation and criticism; and the inspiration of his theories to the creation of poems at that times and at present times.Liang's poems and aesthetics are deeply influenced by the western symbolism, especially symbolism of France. But with his acceptance of this influence, Liang is unceasingly making his own developments and putting forward a series of important view points such as "purity poems" and "universal spirit", etc., and also establishing his own complete theories system of symbolism with national features. On the comparison of Chinese poems and western poems, Liang tries hardly to find the common things of the two on the basis of Chinese traditional poems, thus find the junction point of the communication of Chinese culture and western one. In order to coordinate with the Chinese new poems which are already mature, he proposes many views about the creation and criticism of poems, which points a sound and pure road for the new poems which are standing on the crossroads. Liang's thoughts of poems and aesthetics have close relationship with the "purity" he is untiringly pursuing. Some of his views have important guidance significance to the creation of new poems at present times or the poem creation today.
