Research On The Form,Sense And Complication Of Design Sign

Design is the science on the artificial "event" and "matter". Firstly, it is the product of the integration of art and science. Secondly, the kernel of design is the inheritance and transcendence in culture. Finally, the essence of design is creation. Design sign is the medium that broadcasts information of modern design and displays design culture effectively.This article is based on the comparison between Eastern and western traditional signs. And by means of the method of logical semiotics, and using the semiotics principles into practical design field, it researches on the form, space, structure, and sense, broadcasting and using of design signs. Having lots of examples, it makes the framework of design semiotics. This article has three parts:In the first part it is analyses the syntax of traditional art sign and modern design sign. It analyses the evolution of sign and the sense of original art sign, and explains the character of design sign by sign character, art character and design character. Through the intrinsic structure of Eastern and Western traditional culture, it gets the syntax rules of traditional art signs. And it researches the field of how to use the traditional art sign in modern design, how to integrate the Eastern and Western traditional signs and how to create new signs.In the second part it discusses the semantics in the expression and methods of traditional art sign. Quoted from the sign theory of Peirce, C, it classifies the Eastern and Western traditional art signs in Icon, Index and Symbol. Then it explains the denotation, the connotation and the variety of the sense of traditional art signs.In the third part it comes to the author's point of view on the design sign through pragmatics. It explores the process which comes from the formation of design sign and the effects that the users have seen It classifies the design theory and practice in the field of Communication Design, Product Design, Environment Design, and Architectural Design. According to the digital and Internet medium, it foresees the interactivity, guidance, expressivities of design sign in the post information era.Using both popular and traditional syntax, concise and complex semantics in modern design, it will create whole new personalities and humanities in design sign, which is the primary task of design semiotics.
