This thesis takes the tendency Verb in Xingshi Yinyuan Zhuan as objects to describe and analyze their lexical meaning and grammatical function from four aspects, that is, quantity, individual use, use of complement and general rules when used as complement. Meanwhile, through comparing with the contemporary Chinese, it tries to explain the historical characteristic of the tendency Verb, in that particular period, or, the end of Ming Dynasty, it also tries to explore their developing rule. Generally speaking, the tendency Verb in Xingshi Yinyuan Zhuan seemed quite similar to the modern Chinese, there are, however, quite large number of "delicate discrepancy". Through the analysis about "delicate discrepancy", we can find tendency are on the way of standanization and concision. The general rules of language development run through the whole process: 1.The rule of gradualness. The number of the tendency Verb tends to incline. Among the tendency Verb in Xingshi Yinyuan Zhuan, ten of them has disappeared or been rarely used. But these are only 28.57% in total while majority has been retained. The rule of imbalance. As a whole, this tendency has changed lexically, which results from the social development; on the other hand, they changed little grammatically, just certain patterns, addition and reduction. It is showed here that different constituents hold different changing speed and that development of grammar is relatively slow. The rule of compensation. The disappearance and in modern Chinese and the loss of certain patterns give rise to the enlargement of expressive function of other tendency. The rule of syllable's doublization. the tendency Verb and their grammatical pattern tend to doublize in syllable. These rules are not mutually exclusive but run parallel. The development of the tendency Verb is gradual and imbalanced; it is also bound by the rule of compensation and syllable's doublization.
