This thesis probes into the problem of translationese. Based on current theories of translation and linguistic differences between English and Chinese languages, the author discusses the problem over its concept, various errors (found in word level, grammatical level and sentence level) and their strategies. It includes:1. Theoretical basis. The theories applied are of translation and differences between English and Chinese languages. The essence of translation lies in the correspondent conversion from one language to the other, whose center is the translation of meaning. Therefore, translation is multi-dimensional and profound. As to the differences of the two languages, English is mainly hypotactic while Chinese distinctively paratactic.2. A discussion on the translationese found in English-Chinese translation. The problem, which is affected by English language, is characterized by incorrectness because of influent, wordy and even incomprehensible way of using Chinese. Translationese Chinese just do not convey what Chinese express themselves.3. An analysis is made of the translationese of words, grammatical structures and sentence patterns, with strategies suggested. In the conclusion, the author suggests that the problem of translationese so widely exists in translated Chinese that it can not be ignored. Translators should try their best to remove it.
