Since the 1970s, research into the acquisition of a second language, a burgeoning branch of learning was set up against the backdrop of psychology whose theories strongly influenced this new field. Describing the process by which a second language is acquired is the first step in this research. Next, every developmental phase of the learner's linguistic structural characteristics has been faithfully recorded. Out of this, their sequence and patterns can be summed up and an explanation can be made as to why the learner follows a certain order when acquiring the second language. The purpose is to both describe the process of acquiring a second language and explain its rules. This thesis aims to study the acquisition of the Chinese interrogative sentence pattern in native English speakers. The interrogative sentence occupies a special place in language. Chinese education for foreigners is to give the non-Chinese speaker the ability to use Chinese in communication, therefore the interrogative sentence is very important. Before the question of "teaching" is solved, the question of "learning" must be researched. We studied 10 native English speakers who are learning Chinese in China. By analyzing the Chinese interrogative sentences they used and comparing it to contemporary Chinese, the process by which native English learners acquire Chinese interrogative sentence patterns is described and their basic order and common patterns are derived. In conjunction with this, relevant Chinese interrogative sentence instruction is suggested.
