Modality Adverbs differ greatly from other adverbs. They have distinct individual characters in grammatical meaning, semantic direction, pramatics ,text and so on. The data in the paper are the words which have the meaning of fortunate. On the basis of the structuralism's theory, we use the methodology of grammaticalization, discourse analysis and systemic grammar. We study their sentence structures, pragmatic functions and their grammaticalization. The paper are mainly discussed in three parts. Firstly, the paper describes their express and function .It begins with the study of their usages in semantic and express respectively, and analyzes the differences between them in meaning, the types of style and syntax. And then summarizes the two functions as uttering and emphasizing in pragmatic systems. Secondly, the textual function of the modality adverbs is analyzed from the point of view of co-occurance and collocation. According to the collocation between conjunctive adverbs or conjunctions with them, their textual function and interpersonal function can be set up. And then thecollocation instances and restriction factors are researched. Finally, the historical changes of these words are studied from before the Qin Dynasty to the late Qing. According to studying the semantic features and functions of them in different times, their process in the history of these words by which ,a unit with lexical meaning changes into one with grammatical meaning are reached, and their grammaticalization mechanism are also analyzed.
