An Investigation And Research On The Musical Instrument "Chou" (筹) In Henan And Anhui Province

Among the folk music of Buddhism and Taoism in Henan and Anhui provinces, there is an old antiquated instrument-Chou(a kind of bamboo pipe, which is held slantingly to blow).It exists here for a long time in history. Because there're not writing about it on ancient books and records ,and the way of making in folk is "cutting the head of bamboo pipe is Chou", so the most of people always believed Chou coming from bamboo pipe. Until a patch of bone pipe were unearthed in Jiahu relics of Henan's Wuyang County. Chou, because it's form and the way of blowing similar to the Jiahu bone pipe's, was paid attention by people.On the base of senior person's achievement in research, my thesis will try to write from two angles, which are about inspecting and researching of Chou. Through the on-the-spot investigation in Henan and Anhui provinces, to write the things and actors about Chou by the way of narrating and discuss. And it'll make further narrating about the relationship of Chou and Yue, pursuing its true name, tracing back to its historical origins and explaining its music. At last, it'll illustrate the necessity of preserving the culture of slantingly to blow from the angle of cultural going down to the future generation.
