As William Faulkner is a modernist, critics mainly focus their research on his experimental contributions to modern narration such as the first-person modern narration, stream of consciousness, and the like in The Sound And The Fury while neglecting his main feature of the juxtaposition of modern and traditional narration. Even when some explicate it, they would think it is in the requisition for the polyphony of modernism. But the effect of the juxtaposition is by far more than that.Using the post-structuralist theory Deconstruction as the base in philosophy, Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalytical theories as support in psychology, and modern structuralist theory of narratology as the bridge to the scientific and objective critique, this thesis investigates and testifies the deconstructive narration in The Sound And The Fury resulted from the juxtaposition, and explores its deconstructive significance, to help to freshen up our understanding of the deterioration and declination of the Compsons in the novel.
