The theory and method of contrastive linguistics is applied in the thesis. According to the author's own experience, the thesis analyzes Uygur and Chinese reported speech in structure and function at the level of grammar.The preface, concept introduction the achievement that the predecessors have gained on reported speech. At the same time, introduces the aim and meaning of the thesis.The second part-concept introduction mainly introduces such concepts as reported speech, direct speech, in direct speech, reporting speech, reporting verbs. The part appoints the researching range of reported speech that is the writer or speaker quotes other's speeches into his own speeches.The third part-grammar contrast is divided into two sections: the grammar contrast of direct speech and the grammar contrast if indiredt speech. Each section is divided into function contrast and structure contrast.In grammar contrast of direct speech, there are some different points as follows:1 The direct speech can be put behind the adjunct in Uygur, while put behind the reporting verbs in Chinese.2 In the direct speech with reporting speech, subject can be put behind predicate in Uygur, while subject is in front of predicate in Chinese.3 The subject and predicate of reporting speech can be put at the two terminations of direct speech respectively in Uygur, whilethe subject and predicate is at the same termination of direct speech in Chinese.4 The reporting verb " " is different form " ".In the direct speech, we should focus on the speech that direct speech is often added to in Uygur. This kind of sentences is not suitable for corresponding with direct speech in Chinese. This kind of sentences is divided into six groups:1 When the direct speech is imperative sentence in Uygur, in can be expressed with sentence including such words as " " or " " in Chinese.2 Some special usages of " " in direct speech, and its corresponding expression in Chinese. (1) Can be put behind direct speech to show action will be done or finished. It can be expressed with " ", " ", " " in Chinese.(2) Can be put behind direct speech to show aims and reasons. It can be expressed with judgment sentence or the sentence, which shows the relationship of reason and result.(3) Can be put behind negative form of adverbial verb in. It can be expressed with " " or " " in Chinese.3 Can be put behind direct speech. It can be expressed with " ", " " in Chinese.4 Can be used in conditional form, and direct speech is added to its preceding. It can be expressed with the sentence, which takes on the relationship of hypothesis.5 Partly, direct speech is added in front of and noun is added behind it in Uygur. It can be expressed in Chinese according to context.is usually applied to draw direct speech out. It can be expressed with " " or " " in Chinese.In grammar contrast of indirect speech, the thesis mainly analyzes the different points of structure between Uygur and Chinese.1 When interrogative sentence is reported, compulsive voice is used in Uygur. It can be expressed with the sentence including such words as" "or" "in Chinese. The hearer is expressed with objective case in Uygur, while expressed with additional word in Chinese.2 When interrogative sentence is reported, the predicate of direct speech is changed into noun. It can be expressed with " ", " ... ", " " inChinese.3 When declarative sentence is reported, different morphology variations are taken in Uygur. The sentence in Chinese usually changes the person and time only.The thesis contrastively analyzes the Uygur and Chinese reported speech, which will be beneficial to those who are studying Uygur or Chinese as a second language.
