Although Shangshu in Jinwen is abstruse, it is a most significant document and ancient book. Scholars of all ages have done textual research and dispelled doubts since Han Dynasty. And they have achieved great achievements in collating and exegetics of words. However, research on the grammar features is far from sufficient, especially on content word grammar. Verb, main part of speech, is the most active because it has close relation with the subject precedent and object, complement antecedent. And in a verbal predicate sentence, the verb plays a decisive role in the essential features of the pattern. Furthermore, Shangshu in Jinwen is a political document written in dialogue. Thus, it has most verbs and the most majority sentences are also verbal predicate patterns. Last, this thesis, though based on the written explanations, textual research and annotations of the ex-scholars, may in turn be employed to check, expound and revise their achievements. It is thus evident that a thorough grammar study on Shangshu in Jinwen is most essential and significant. This thesis has investigated the features of verbal grammar through the study of the verbal predicate pattern and attempted to expound and analyze them from the perspective of semantic meaning. All the verbal examples in Shangshu in Jinwen have been investigated in this article. And it has classified the verbs meticulously according to their semantic features and grammar functions. Also it describes in details the characteristics of semantic grammar and pattern features of the verbal predicate sentences, thus providing some materials for the study of verbal grammar of ancient Chinese and the study of sentence pattern. An exhaustive study and thorough description have been given to the tri-basic verbs in my article. In investigating the grammar characteristics of the tri-basic verbs, I attempt to unfold their features from the two aspects of the semantic meaning and grammar, explaining the difference of sentence constitution due to internal differences of the verbs on which though belong to the same meaning category, and showing the inconsistency between the syntax structure and semantic structure. This thesis has also given an exhaustive investigation and study to sentences with consecutive predicates parallel sentences and sentences with object complement. And also more thorough descriptions have been given to the sentence patterns and features.
