Of English basic skills, listening is the most important one and is also difficult to improve for most foreign language learners. This skill has not been valued for a long time, so many people have formed a wrong conception: listening course is not essential and it is the easiest to teach. In recent years, people have paid more attention to listening teaching, but under the influence of the traditional listening-teaching mode, the teaching effect is not very good. As the international communication is going in depth continuously, it is very important to reform the listening-teaching mode.Five-Year College is an attempt of State Education Commission on the reform in college education, it is a new measure to suit the needs of elementary education and the development of local economic construction and to cultivate high-quality teachers for junior middle school and primary school. In order to bring the priority of students in Five-Year College into full play and to suit the needs of education reform, the author has made an attempt on Five-Year College' s listening-teaching mode.This thesis has reviewed the nature of listening and presented the different descriptions of different schools of thoughts about psychological process of listening comprehension. Guided by the theories of Krashen' s Second language Acquisition and Vygodski' s Zone of Proximal Development, the author has attempted a two-stage listening-teaching mode on the basis of the teaching schedule and the actual situation of English majors in Five-Year College (through questionaire and test etc). That is: five-year teachingmethods have been used. This mode has been proved to be effective and practical through the two years' hard work-it has overcome the blindness and passivity of traditional listening teaching and has fully aroused the enthusiasm and initiative of the students. The teaching effect has been improved greatly. At the end of this thesis, the author gives some suggestions on listening teaching of English major of Five-Year College, aiming at giving some enlightenment to English teachers.
