The localized study on education and consultation of mental health is becoming one of the hot themes in the recent educational theory and practice. Modern western scientistic psychology and humanistic psychology have their appropriate applicable scope and object respectively. Based on the positive philosophy, the scientistic psychology advocates the theory of value neutralism so as to promote the scientization and specialization of the mental health education and consultation; while the humanistic psychology, putting man as thing-in-itself, holds the subject principle and advocates the harmony between human and nature, so is more rational. Yet the humanistic psychology puts so much emphasis on the individual natural properties, and so neglects the human social properties. This paper suggests that, if the achievements of the western theories on education and consultation of mental health are drawn on, detours can be avoided; but if the theories and ways were wholly transplanted to China, their effects on the education and consultation of mental health in higher schools and colleges might not be so ideal. The paper also shows that, in each of the traditional theories about the heart cultivation such as Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism, special purport exists to adjust to reach the physical and mental adaptation. For example, Confucians worship virtue, Taoists advocate truth and Buddhists cultivate their mind. Being advantageous to physical and mental health, the essence of the correlative theories, with universal adaptability, help to solve problems concerning the mental health of college students. Thus the paper believes that, guided by Marxist theories, and with the integration of cultural resources on mental health education domestically and abroad, a new model with Chinese characteristics should be reconstructed to conduct the education and consultation of mental health in higher schools and colleges.
