This text carries on a comparatively overall and systematic research on The Garden Of Saying from different angles and special topics. The whole text is divided into five chapters.Chapter one 'A Research On The Original Appearance Of The Garden Of Saying', studies the author of the book, the time of the book, the title and the figure of the chapters, each of which becomes a separate section. The author of the book is said to be Liu Xiang; the book is finished in Hongjia Year 4; The Garden Of Saying should not be The Miscellaneous Affairs Of The Garden Of Saying, neither be The Views On Society; there are 20 volumes in a copy of The Garden Of Saying -although there are not missing volumes, the volumes have lost chapters, the chapters have lost sentences, not the original appearance of what Liu xiang writes.Chapter two 'A Study On Editions Of The Garden Of Saying', an investigation of the past dynasties edition of the book, is divided into three sections: (1) Song Edition, Yuan Edition; (2) Ming Edition; (3) Qing and later Editions. This chapter probes into the meanings of relevant editions to the study of The Garden Of Saying and analyses the value of Song Edition and Ming Edition emphatically.Chapter three and chapter four study the relations between The Garden Of Saying and the ancient books quoted in it. Chapter three 'An Investigation of The Quoted Books In The Garden Of Saying (Part One)', investigates the relations between relevant Confucian classics, history records and The Garden Of Saying, each one being a separate section. Chapter four ' An Investigation Of The Quoted Books In The Garden Of Saying (Part Two) ', is divided into two sections. Section one following chapter three, investigates the relations between the book and relevant branch books. Section two 'On The Quoted Books Of The Garden Of Saying', through an investigation of the quoted Confucian classics, history records and the branch books, further analyses the quoting characteristic of the book and claims that it is Liu Xiang's own script rather than a copy or compiling of other books. Besides, there is a discussion about the document values of the book, which is reflected in three aspects mainly: (1) value of collation, (2) value of collecting lost, (3) value of historical data.Chapter five 'On The Thoughts And Artistic Characters Of The Garden Of Saying', is divided into three sections. Section one studies what thoughts the book belongs to, viewing that the whole book circles the doctrine of Confucius and Mencius as the main shaft and the thoughts reflected are traditional Confusion theory. This book should be included in all the sub Confucian schools. Section two discusses the characteristics of drawing materials of The Garden Of Saying and claims: (1) Whether the material is true is not the focal point this book paying close attention to; (2) The book declines incorporating things of diverse nature to the differently consciously; (3) The book exaggerates the quoting materials sometimes. Section three analyses the artistic characters of the book: (1) precise and alert language; (2) careful description that catches the spirit; (3) rich and colorful fables.
