Er 'ya subcommentary is compiled by Xingbing and other person, Who inheritted the simple style of study of the Han school of classical philology, drew on the experience of the Tang Dynasty's Rectified Interpretation, abiding by the purpose that "doing textual research is on the basis of Confucian classics, annotating the meaning is in the light of Jingchun" . It represents the level and achievement of Song Dynasty's Er 'ya research, so it serves as a link between past and future in the whole history of Er 'ya research. On the basis of explaining Er 'ya subcommentary's compiling background and stylistic rules and layout, this text describes and explains its content and exegesis methods wholly and minutly, explains how it inherited the achievement of the previous dynasty's Er 'ya's research and other language problem from the diachronic aspect. Then this text confirms its value, at the same time, text also discloses its serious shortcoming, attempting to get the objective appraisal of it and help people understand and use it correctly.
