A Research For The Compilation Stylistic Rules And Layout Of Xiang-jiao-pian-hai

As an abridgement, Xiang-jiao-pian-hai(《详校篇海》)is modified, rephrased and deleted on the base of Pian-hai(《篇海》)It utilized double phonetic notations including Fan-qie(反切)and Zhi-yin(直音)It is enriched by detailed explanation,abundant illustration and adequate material. The formal and informal characters,together with some false characters were included for the sake of convience in checking. Before the popular use of Zi-hui(《字汇》)and Zheng-zi-tong(《正字通》), it is a very important dictionary, which is widely used.Every dictionary has its own compiling style. But there is a lack of detailed explanation on the compiling style for the ancient dictionary in China. Though there is some compiling style in this dictionary, it is simply an general explanation, which is short of the generalization of it compiling principle. This defective bring some inconvinience for reading. To take the advantage of the dictionary fully, this paper starts with the full checking, moving on to summarize its compiling style in character collection, phonetic transcription and interpretation.Thus the whole character of its compiling style is unveiled. After that, the summaried compiling stlye is compared with the previous one in order to check whether its compiling style is carried out through the whole work. The deficiency of this work in compiling styles will shed lights on the subsequent dictionary compiling and editing.
