China and India are both countries with ancient civilization. The two countries have established friendly diplomatic relationship since 1950's. India was once a colony of the United Kingdom, and in 1947 it took apart from the UK, which impacted the world seriously.India is not only an important neighbor of China, but also a rival which has the potent to become a super power. Since its independence, India has made great progress in political, economic and culture field.The mutually beneficial cooperation in regional and international affairs has been established between China and India, which will influence the world condition greatly.This thesis consists of three chapters. The first chapter introduces Nehru's foreign policy, which was the basis of India's diplomatic relationships in the author's opinion. In the second chapter, the author reviews the adjustment and development of India's foreign policy during 1960's- 1980's. In the last chapter, the author analyses the influence of the ending of Cold War. Since 1990's, India has put its eyes on the development of state power, especially on economy, science and technology .In the conclusion chapter, the author analyses the potential and obstacle of India's development and expresses her opinion on Sino-India relations.
