Study On Preposition In The Annals Of San Guo

As one kind of the function words, preposition, having meaningful grammar effects in language, plays a very important role not only in the ancient Chinese grammar study but also in the modern one. However, for the tardy beginning of Chinese grammar study of the mid-ancient times, research on preposition of this period seemed to be very short of. The Annals of San Guo, as a large date base of the San Guo language, is a very important source text for the research on the mid-ancient Chinese. So I choose preposition in the Annals of San Guo as my study subject, having overall observation and studies, detailed statistics, and making investigation and analysis about this. I would try my best to do some benefits on the research on the general picture of the mid-ancient preposition and the develop regularity of preposition.First, I give a brief introduction of the book-the Annals of San Guo and the meaning and valuement of the research on preposition in it. I explain the research methods, give a whole summarization of the study circumstance of preposition in history of Chinese grammar, then discuss the issue about the judgement and classificatory on preposition.Then, I make detailed classificatory and description on preposition in the Annals of San Guo one by one, observe and study the develop situations of some prepositions. I would have a synchronic analysis to some prepositions with comparison method , basically arrange a preposition system in the Annals of San Guo on the whole.In the thesis, I take quantitative analysis method -investigate and analyze the prepositions with the position of preposition structure and the grammar meaning of preposition as clue. The fourty-two preposition phrases in the Annals of San Guo were divided into two categories -as adverbial modifier before predication and as complement after predication. Based on the semantic view, preposition would be divided into fivecategories: ones indicate places, indicate times, indicate objects, indicate reasons and indicate range or content. I would describe and analyze the five categories one by one.I make inductions based on the system description of preposition in the Annals of San Guo, reflect the use situations with tabulation method and analyze their characteristics. At the same time, compared with the usage preposition on Biography of Zuo preposition on the Annals of San Guo would have more features. Finally analyzing the usage situations, I would discuss the grammaticalization problem of preposition.
