Abstract: Chinese modern Special Education originated from the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Dynasty. With the promotion of some good foreign missionaries, the Special Education towards the blind,the deaf and the dumb in Chengdu, Sichuan province of China began in the year of 1922. During the period of the Republic of China ( from1922 to1949 ),especially, before the victory of the anti-Japanese war and afterwards, the Special Education in Chengdu developed more rapidly than ever because of the large help of various circles of society such the Sichuan educators as Luo Shufang, Chengdu municipal government, Sichuan provincial government, citizens and foreign missionaries or friends and so on. During this period , it took on its own the unique characteristics. For instance, at that time, the educators attached great importance to attract ''social''support and to cultivate teachers in Special Education, which had done many contributions not only to the handicapped in Sichuan province but to the development of the western special education today. However, due to many a obstacle from a variety of factors at that time, the Special Education in Chengdu , Sichuan province of China had been under slow development. Anyway, it is of great significance for those who specialize in Special Education to study the Special Education on the blind,the deaf and the dumb during the Republic of China. More important, these valuable experiences are bound to contribute to the research of Special Education in West China greatly.
