This thesis is a research of the Lianmian words (联绵字) which are concluded in the direct prose style of Da Fu (大赋) written during the Western and Eastern Han﹣Dynasty. In this thesis, the author sorts out these Lianmian words into two parts —— the Lianmian words used separately and the double ones used together. Our purpose is to promote a thorough investigation and research on the Lianmian words of the Western and Eastern Han﹣Dynasty. Following are the four chapters. As a preface, chapter one is divided into two sections. In the first part, the author introduces the predecessors' achievements about this research. In section two, the author introduces the specialty of the Lianmian words and the reason of choosing them as the target. In chapter two, the author investigates the single Lianmian words in two groups: the Lianmian words originated from pre﹣Qin﹣Dynasty and the ones appeared newly. The author sorts every group into five styles according to their different internal phonic relations. In chapter three, the author gives the appreciation to the double Lianmian words used together by analysing the three styles of AABB,ABA'B'and ABCD, studying their internal structure. As the innovation of this research, this chapter is the most important part of this thesis. In the first section of chapter four, the author reaches the conclusion of this thesis. In the second section, the author gives further explanation on the significance and perspective of the research.
