Double Negative Imperative Sentence "Don't do+ X" is a specific collocation. From its formation we can easily define it refers to both double negative sentence and imperative sentence. Usually academic circles pay much attention on the research of the distinction of double negative sentence and imperative sentence while pay no attention to the structure of "Don't do+ X". However, compared with double negative sentence and imperative sentence, it is much more complicated in formation, semantic and usage. Basically, it takes concerted action with the positive meaning of double negative and contains meaning of domination. And during practical using, it also shows complexity in the combination of its elements and specific characteristics in its semantic. On the basis of present academic achievements and by the comparison method, started with the regular pattern and cause of formation, this thesis tries to analyze and elaborate this structure by its formation, semantic and usage to achieve more discoveries.This thesis can be divided into four parts. In the first part, the author observes and studies the basic expressions and the distinguishing features of the structure "Don't do+ X" in details, considers that there are three kinds of combination in "don't" , "do" and "X" . And its semantic can show many possibilities in accordance with the difference of the characteristics of certain word (verb or adjective) and emotional colorings (commendatory, derogatory and neuter) of "X". In the second part the author analyzes the regular patterns and causes of formation of the "Don't do+ X" structure specifically. In the author's opinion, no matter what characteristic "X" is, emotional coloring is the key in its combination with "don't", "not" and "don't do" ( "don't" and "don't do" particularly) .The possibilities of its meaning are tightly connected the meaning "stop, forbid" of " don't" and the meaning "negative, judgment" of "not".
