The modern media symbols like news, advertisement , telephones, telegrams letters and so on, which appear frequently in the Detective Stories About Huo Sang, reveal before us a unique view of modern media. Can they be regarded as modern media symbols? How were they put into the text of the Detective Stories About Huo Sang? As narrative factors of inheritance and revolution, how do they contribute to the formation of the text structure? How do they play a role in the transformation of the text function?Chapter one will give the reason why the modern media symbols become the component factors of the text. The readers, the writers and the need of the text structure itself are the main reason for that. When the western detective stories were introduced and implanted in China, the join forces of the readers, the writers, the social reality and so on, transformed the news, advertisements, telephones, telegrams and letters into modern media symbols.Chapter two shows the relations between the modern media symbols and the formation of the plot and structure of the text, showing us ChengXiaoping's inheritance to the artistic techniques of the western classical detective stories. Otherwise, it is just the join forces of such factors that restrain the text, displaying more variability of the artistic techniques and the whole narrative style of the text.Chapter three expresses the relations between the modern media symbols and the transformation of the text function. On the one hand, the practical use and function of the modern media symbols are weakened, on the other hand, they still act to contribute to an actual illusion, which not only attracts the attention of the readers, but also plays an important role in the transformation of the text function. The conclusion of the paper is based on the following discussion of the relations:Firstly the relations between the actual illusions and the identity change of Huo Sang. Secondly , the relations between the actual illusion and the change of the style .Thirdly the relations between the actual illusion and the transformation of the text function .The following is the main point of the paper. The writing practice of Cheng Xiaoqing by combining the western classical detective stories with the traditional Chinese stories contributed to the formation of the modern Chinese imagination ,in which the modern media symbols acted as the catalyst.
