The university students' social self-efficacy is the confidence in one's ability to engage in the social interact ional tasks necessary to initiate and maintain interpersonal relationships in the different communication context. This is the individual internal mental mechanism in the interpersonal communication. The study of university students' social self-efficacy enriches self-efficacy theory, and provides the theoretical guidance for university students' interpersonal communications. Also it develops the field of interpersonal communication. At present, the study on social self-efficacy of university students is quite rare at home and abroad. By analyzing the literatures and inventories, this study probes into the mental construction of the social self-efficacy. Based on that, the study works out the primary questionnaire. After amending the primary questionnaire, the formal questionnaire is formed and carries out among 781 college students. The result is:1. The self-made questionnaire is of good reliability and fair validity. Through the method of explore factor analysis, the research find five dimensions construct social self-efficacy. They are: communication with strangers efficacy, expression with confidence efficacy, affinity efficacy, active interaction efficacy, coping with social difficulties.2. The subject differences exist in the social self-efficacy. On the whole, communication with strangers efficacy, expression with confidence efficacy, affinity efficacy, and coping with social difficulties, art students are higher significantly than science.3. The grade differences exist in the social self-efficacy. On the whole , expression with confidence efficacy, affinity efficacy, grade four is higher significantly than grade two. On the coping with social difficulties efficacy, grade four is higher significantly than grade one.4. The personal factors A, F, H in 16PF have negative and moderate affect on socialanxiety ,and the coefficient is (-0.64).The social support and social self-efficacy have negative and low affect on social anxiety ,and the coefficient is (-0.18) and (-0.12) .5.The personal factors A,F,H in 16PF have positive and high affect on social self-efficacy ,and the coefficient is 0.74.The social support has positive and low affect on social self-efficacy ,and the coefficient is 0.12.
