On The Tendency Of Existentialism And Its Showing In Fangfang's Fiction

Fangfang is an author who cares for human life. Her creations arealways about human being------their life and existence. She reveals the loneliness ofbeings, the absurdity and empty of life, which show the tendency of existentialism in her fictions.This paper consists of three parts.In first part, we cleared up the elements of existentialism in Fangfang's fictions. We found out that they were about existentialism in terms of three aspects of thephilosophy of existentialism------the sensation of loneliness and absurdity of a being,the probability of choosing and arranging life by oneself which will effect him from then on, and the relationship between an individual and world he lives in.In second part, we discussed how the elements of existentialism were expressed in Fangfang's fictions. In her creations, Fangfang showed the life and the world in a realistic way. She revealed how people lived in cities and villages in modern society by describing normal persons and their daily lives in stories one after another, and got the essence of being thereby. Moreover, the author's attitude to the persons and their actions and thinking in her stories came into a kind of narrating tension.In third part, we discussed why Fangfang chose or abandoned some contents of the philosophy of existentialism of western science. Fangfang's view about life came from Chinese traditional thinking besides western science. The utilitarian and rational ideas in traditional thinking contributed to the transform of the existentialism philosophy of western science. Fangfang focused on revealing how ugly world and life are, abandoned the idea that people could save themselves and get living meaning though his own choices and behaviors, which is believed in existentialism philosophy in west. The existentialism spirit in Fangfang's fictions wandered between the abstract existence and specific livelihood. We regarded Fangfang as an author who thought about human's existence in modern time sincerely.
