Industrial design and Engineering design are two most important processes in product design, which cooperate and supplement each other. The unhindered transition or not between the two processes directly influences the design quality and efficiency. The transition of design is a difficult problem that long puzzles industrial designers and engineers. Now two approaches, Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and intensify the engineering knowledge of industrial designers are applied to partly resolve this problem. While, the main aim of DFMA is expediently manufacture and assembly. So sometimes the modeling has to badly modify for it. But in this dissertation, the transition problem is resolved by harmonizing the relationship between industrial design and engineering design, which assure the modeling concept of industrial designers is well carried out. Since the transition problem is very complex, strengthen the engineering knowledge of industrial designers is not enough to resolve the problem.This dissertation firstly anatomizes the correlative theory of design transition. Then the transition itself is roundly analyzed and studied. Based on the above studies, the measures in each phase of design program are brought forward. During the preparing phase of design, through exact information input and Parametric Approach, the correlative information of design transition are gathered and analyzed, then the key information about transition are found. And the orientation of design is carried out by Image Scale approach. During the implementing phase of design, the concept sketches are drawn based on the feasibility of technology. The measures, "utilize elements of craft to create modeling aesthetic feeling" and "structure innovation drive modeling innovation" are adopted. The importance of non-fraudulent design expression in resolving design transition problem is emphasized in this phase. During the anaphase of industrial design, the offer of high quality 3D model is the most important measure to resolve the transition problem. So this dissertation analyzes the causations of resulting in the quality problems of 3D model. And some common examining tools of 3D model are also introduced.Finally, for validating these measures, the author applies them to the design of Weisheng ammeters and Liebao cross-country automobiles and obtains good outcome.
