The South China Sea has been a part of the territory of China since ancient times. It is proved by abundant evidences in China both in history and in legal principle that the sovereignty of the South China Sea belongs to China indisputably. However, after the seventies of the 20th century, as the area of Nansha was discovered with large-scale oil and gas fields and abundant marine resources, its neighboring countries such as Vietnam, Philippines and so on occupied a large number of islands and reefs in Nansha successively, and cut apart a large stretch of sea area of Nansha. They explore the petroleum, rob the resources and carry on illegal activities. Some powers out of this area such as the U.S.A have involved in this issue directly or indirectly. This makes the issue more and more complex. So it is very significant for us to study this issue. This thesis tries to probe why and how the U.S.A getting involved in the South China Sea.
