From the beginning of the Christian education came into being in China , its character which was obvious different from eastern agricultural society made it confronting the matter to be harmonious with Chinese society , which also means "localization"and "Chinese characteristic". This text takes Christian Middles of the whole Republican Period in Central China as research object , and mostly focuses on their "Chinese characteristic" process .The first chapter distinguishes the geographical concept of "Central China", and introduces the general situation of the middle schools of Central China by a grest deal of tables and datas , which were compared with east and south China . This chapter also treat of the Central China Christian Educational Association , which assumed an important task in the "localization" and the "Chinese characteristic" in the early republic period .The second chapter analyses the events that were turns to the development of Central China's middle schools , in which the CentralChina's age and social context, as well as the "Chinese charecteristic" process is revealed . 1938 , Central China was involved into the war of Japanese aggression , Wuhan , Changsha were occupied one after another , the middle schools moved to the rear area of west China , or to the devious countries , most of them didn't remain in Central China , in addition , they also didn't remain much information to be studied by later generation , so this text dose not deal with their situation during the anti-Japanese war .Providing more and much steady Christians is one most important function for Christian middle schools to exist , therefore the success of religious eduction is much more important for middle schools than for colleges . The third chapter analyses the single case of religious education of Yali middle school , open out the explore for new method of middle schools in the "Chinses characteristic"process , as well as the puzzledom they were facing .School culture which has few study up to now also plays an important role in middle school students' lives , and had significant effect during their growing process . The forth chapter focuses on the school culture of Christian middle schools , through this window to reveal another part of secondary eduction and its close relationship to the Chinese culture and society .At the end , the author put Christian middle schools into the whole Christian evangelistic program to evaluate the place of it , and compare the "Chinese chraracteristic"process between the middle schools and the colleges , point out the samenesses and differences .This text hopes to choose the worthy object to reveal the survival situation of middle schools and the students in the republic period . During the nearly 40 years long histroy, the initiative or the passive struggle to be harmonious with Chinese society of christian middle schools, as well as their indivisibility relationship to the Chinese society are the major idea of this text.
