Needs Analysis For Better ESP Materials For Post-Band 4 Students

This paper introduces the present situation and needs of Post-Band 4 English materials design through investigation, aims to find out available resolvents to the problems of Post-Band 4 English materials design. The objects of the investigation are students in DUT who have passed CET 4 and college English teacher of Foreign Language Institution in DUT by the way of quantitative research (questionnaire), and qualitative research (interview: semi-structured). The investigation is based on the need analysis theory, and some background knowledge and relative definition of ESP (English for Specific Purpose), as Post-Band 4 English teaching is part of ESP teaching, which is proved by the data analysis, significance and purpose of the study, and empirical studies about ESP and ESP materials design. The investigation offers a scientific, concrete and practical data and situation description from four parts: 1) corresponding situation; 2) specialization of Post-Band 4 English materials; 3) specialization and knowledge structure of Post-Band 4 English teachers; 4) need analysis and individuation of Post-Band 4 English learning. In all, principles and points of attention for Post-Band 4 English materials design are put forward in the paper, also with the aim to open up a shortcut for this kind research.
